If you have a crawl space in your home, then you understand how important it is to keep it dry. A wet crawl space can cause mold growth, wood rot, and other structural damage. One of the best ways to keep your crawl space dry is by installing a sump pump. In this blog post, we’ll discuss the benefits of having a crawl space sump pump and why it’s essential for keeping your home safe and dry.
A sump pump is an electric pump that helps keep water out of low-lying areas such as basements or crawl spaces. It works by pumping water out of the area and away from the structure via pipes or hoses. The best time to install a sump pump is before the wet season begins. However, if you already have water issues in your basement or crawlspace, then adding a sump pump may be the best solution.
By diverting water away from your home, you can help prevent mold growth and wood rot caused by moisture buildup in your crawl space or basement. This will help protect your structure from unnecessary damage caused by water buildup over time.
Installing a sump pump will make maintenance easier since you won’t need to manually remove water from your basement or crawlspace when it rains or snows. The sump pump will do all the hard work for you!
In areas prone to flooding, having a sump pump can help protect against costly damage caused by rising waters in basements and crawl spaces. The sump pump will work continuously until the danger has passed and will automatically shut off when no longer needed.
If your sump pump won't turn on, the first thing you should check is the power source. If the pump is plugged into an outlet, make sure that the outlet is receiving power by plugging it into another device. If the outlet is working but the pump still won't turn on, the problem may be with the float switch.
The float switch is what tells the pump to turn on when water levels rise, so if it's not working properly, the pump won't turn on. To test the float switch, simply lift it up with your hand. If the pump turns on, then you know that the float switch is working properly. If not, you'll need to replace it.
If your sump pump keeps running even when there's no water in the sump pit, there are a few possible causes. First, check to see if there's anything blocking the discharge pipe. If there is, remove it and see if that solves the problem. If not, the problem may be with the float switch again. If the float switch isn't working properly, it may be stuck in the "on" position, which would cause the pump to keep running.
Another possibility is that there's something wrong with the check valve—the part of the pump that prevents water from flowing back into the pit after it's been pumped out. If you suspect that this is the case, you'll need to call a plumber to replace it.
On the other hand, if your sump pump doesn't stop running—even when there's no water in sight—the problem may be with an airlock in the discharge pipe. An airlock occurs when air gets trapped in the pipe, preventing water from flowing through. To fix this problem, simply bleed off some of the air by opening up a faucet or valve near where the discharge pipe meets your home's drainage system.
Having a crawl space sump pump installed in your home is one of the best ways to protect it from moisture-related issues such as mold growth, wood rot, and flooding. Not only does it help keep your home dry but it also makes maintenance easier since it does all the hard work for you! If you live in an area prone to flooding or if you already have moisture-related issues in your basement or crawlspace, then investing in a sump pump may be just what you need to keep your home protected!
