Wood that is buckling, floors and ceilings that have swollen, areas that look as though they are suffering from moderate water damage, and visible mazes within walls or furniture are all outward symptoms of a termite infestation. Termites eat the cellulose in wood, which causes it to buckle. Termites are capable of causing damage to a building's structure as well. Termite infestations can also give off a scent that is analogous to that of mold or mildew, depending on the severity of the infestation.
How are you going to fix the harm that the termites have done to the wood?
Wood hardeners: If the termite damage is not too serious, you may be able to plug in the holes using a wood hardener that is suited to the type of wood and the amount of the infestation. This is presuming, of course, that the termite damage is not too severe. Wood fillers - If the damage is substantial, use a wood filler to remove any evident channels in the wood, and then sand the surface of the wood to make it as smooth as possible. If the damage is not extensive, use a wood filler to hide any obvious channels in the wood.
Is it feasible to make repairs to the damage that termites have caused?
In spite of the fact that the damage caused by termites can occasionally be restored through the use of professional repair services, property owners should always start by contacting a local termite specialist. Termite specialists have the training and experience to identify and eliminate termite infestations. There should be no work done on the structure until it has been verified by a qualified exterminator that there is no longer an active infestation of termites and that the threat of a new infestation has been removed. Until this has been accomplished, there should not be any work done on the structure.
Do you recommend that I replace the wood that has been eaten by termites?
When termites have caused damage to wood that goes deeper than the surface, it is necessary to remove the afflicted wood. If the colony has expanded into the structure of your home, you should replace the wood as quickly as possible, especially in regions that carry weight. This is especially important for sections that support the structure. On the other hand, if the damage is only superficial, you can use wood hardeners to clean it up and add support to it at the same time.
Do termites disappear on their own after a certain amount of time has passed?
To a certain extent, it is true that they are able to go on their own. What is it about this reaction that is so frightening? Quite simply because you never know when they are going to come back! There is no way to tell when a healthy termite colony may return to re-infest a structure if the structure has not been treated for termites. This is because there is no way to know when the colony will return.
How quickly does a termite infestation damage wooden structures?
The rate at which termites devour wood is dependent on a variety of factors, such as the species of termite, the size of the colony, the kind of wood, the climate, and the location.
