I was not dissatisfied! Rippavilla, built in 1855, was the home of Nathaniel and Susan Cheairs. Nathaniel Cheairs was the tenth child of Nathaniel III and Sarah Cheairs.


Who was the owner of Rippavilla?

Nathaniel Cheairs III, a Maryland native of French descent, was the initial owner of the property that would become known as Rippavilla. In 1811, he moved to Maury County, which had only been founded for a few years.


What went down in Rippavilla?

During the Battle of Spring Hill on Nov. 29, 1864, Yankees and Rebels stormed through this area on the Rippavilla Plantation. Sergeant John Hall of the 26th Infantry Regiment, 22, was one of the troops slain that day.
